Caltech ASC: Detonation and Detonation-Driven Fracture

We are carrying out experiments and analyses in support of the Caltech
ASC Center for Simulation of
Dynamic Response of Materials.
Detonation-Driven Fracture Database
Selected data from experiments on detonation driven fracture experiments carried out since 2002 are
available for downloading here.
- 2002 Linear elastic
Pressure and strain data from the original experiments by Tony Chao on from 2002 PVP paper. Use the 2005
data instead for validation of strain computations.
- 2003-4 Fracture
Data from Tong-Wa (Tony) Chao's thesis research given in
engineering units can be downloaded as asci text files. Summary plots and
documentation of the experiments are available in an online version of Chao's PhD
dissertation.
- 2005 Vibrometer measurements These are
strain data obtained by Florian Pintgen using both the optical vibrometer and glue-on strain gages. The tube
was sectioned to determine the wall thickness variation.

Older Presentations
The Caltech ASCI ASAP Center for the Dynamic Simulation of Materials
was revamped in 2002 and the HE group formerly led by Joe Shepherd was
disbanded. Detonation and HE research no longer exists as a separate
component in Phase II (2002-2007) of the Caltech ASC Center.
The old (1997-2002) Caltech ASCI High Explosives group web page is no longer available.
Links for older presentations are given below.
Older Publications
The older publications of the HE group can be downloaded from the Explosives Dynamics
Laboratory
publications web page and most
ASCI-sponsored publications can be downloaded from the Caltech center publications
list.
Joe Shepherd and his research group continue to
carry out an active program of research on detonation and explosions.
Information about current projects can be found on the EDL
web pages or Joe Shepherd's
home page
