Juan C. Lasheras is a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and a member of the Whitaker Institute of Biomedical Engineering. Lasheras received his MS and Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University. He was a Guggenheim Fellow , a George Van Ness-Lothrop Fellow, and the recipient of the 1990 F.N. Frenkiel Award for Fluid Dynamics from the APS/DFD. He is a Fellow of the APS and an Elected Member of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain. He is also a co-founder of INNERCOOL Therapies, a medical devices company producing endovascular catheters to induce therapeutic hypothermia for the treatment of brain strokes and myocardial infarcts.
