Department of Mechanical Engineering
University of California, Santa Barbara
G.M. "Bud" Homsy received his BS degree from UC Berkeley and his MS and PhD from the Univ. Illinois, all in Chemical Engineering. Following a postdoctoral year at Imperial College, London, he joined the Chemical Engineering Department at Stanford University, where he spent 30 years. He has recently taken a position in Mechanical Engineering, UC Santa Barbara. His research concentrates on hydrodynamic instabilities in interfacial flows, fluid/solid systems, thermal convection, Marangoni instabilities, and viscoelastic fluids. He served two terms as Vice-Chair and one term as Chair of the APS Division of Fluid Dynamics, is an Associate Editor of Physics of Fluids, and was the Principal Investigator for the production of "Multi-Media Fluid Mechanics".
