Iain D. Boyd is an Associate Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. He obtained his PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the University of Southampton in 1988. He then worked at NASA Ames Research Center for four years and Cornell University for six years, before moving to Michigan. His research interests involve development of particle methods for nonequilibrium gas and plasma flows with application to space propulsion, hypersonics, and micro-scale gas flows. He is the recipient of the 1998 AIAA Lawrence Sperry Award, and the 1996 AIAA Electric Propulsion Best Paper Award. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets. He has published over 60 papers in the archival literature on nonequilibrium gas and plasma dynamics.
